She began dancing and acting professionally around the middle of the 1990s, with Boulder Dinner Theatre, and later The Country Dinner Playhouse. After that, she joined a regional theatre in Minnesota in which she was featured in a mock documentary film concerning beauty pageants Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999). When she made her screen debut as a charming but snarky contestant she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Her husband was the actor Tony Curtis from June 1951 from September 1962 to June 1951 and her mother to Kelly Curtis and Jamie Lee Curtis. Discovered by the actress Norma Shearer Leigh secured a deal with MGM and started her film career in the 1940s. Leigh appeared in a variety of popular movies in the subsequent decade such as Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) and Living It Up (a Martin and Lewis film from 1954).
